Purpose Ongoing restrictions to resident work hours along with fewer NICU rotations during residency limit the time residents are involved in the care of high risk newborns. The work pace and work flow of the NICU is highly efficient to address the needs of an often fragile and unstable patient population, but limits the amount of time that can be spent educating residents.
