Abstract

The method of flare triangulation is based on simultaneous radio‐controlled observations by three known and three unknown stations on parachute flares dropped by plane at three air stations between the known and unknown stations. This method is useful where length of line exceeds limit of visibility of ground signals. Length of line is limited only by height and intensity of flare and by range of clear weather visibility. The method was tested and proved practical in connecting the Bahama Islands to the North American 1927 datum, though almost perfect weather conditions were found to be necessary for field operations.
