Abstract

A simple model of a flame is presented which reflects the characteristic requirements for the onset of laser action. A numerical example is given to demonstrate that a reasonable choice of the parameters used in the model leads to attainable pumping conditions. The reaction zone of low-pressure oxyacetylene flames is thought to be a suitable source of excitation of atoms and molecules. Excitation conditions of interesting species in this type of flames are discussed briefly together with recent experimental results.
