Abstract

A novel ultraviolet Raman spectroscopic flame diagnostics system is presented. Relative concentrations of O 2, N 2, CO, CO 2, H 2, water vapor, unburned fuel and flame temperature for temperatures ranging from 800 to 2500 K at atmospheric pressure are measured. The pulsed vibrational Raman scattering technique for point measurements is used. Coupling of slow spectrometer scan with time-resolved technique enables measurement of anti-Stokes and Stokes Raman spectra of combustion species with minimal background noise. A relatively lower level of incident light energy of about 25 mJ per pulse can be used for Raman scattering excitation. The system has a simple configuration. After non-complicated transformation, it can be used for combustion chamber flame diagnostics.
