Abstract

Objective. Determine the level of physical activity of health and education workers in order to improve knowledge in this field and to better plan and implement prevention of cardiovascular diseases (KVB) in a better and more successful way. Methods. The survey was based on the type of questionnaire on the design of the cross section study, in which all health workers employed in the Health Center Dr Nika Labovic in Berane and all employed educational staff at the Primary School Vuk Karadžic in Berane, along with a well informed consent, participated. The results. The first group included 109 (60.6%) health workers, and the other 71 (39.4%) educational worker in Berane municipality. Using the hi-square test, a statistically significant difference was not found in the full structure of the examinees of the examined groups, and in both investigated groups the women were dominant, χ2 = 0.024; p = 0.507. By analyzing the frequency of exercising intense physical activity, 3.9% of health workers never exercise intensive physical activity, while 27.5% daily use it. In the group of educational workers no respondent stated that he did not exercise intense physical activity. The average number of hours of sitting per day during the day was higher for -5.78 h in health workers than in 5.18 h (p = 0.155) for educators, but without reaching statistical significance. There was a statistically significant difference in the degree of physical exertion during the performance of work between the studied groups, and health workers had greater physical exertion ( χ2 = 6.493; p = 0.011). The highest percentage of respondents in both groups tested advice on the importance of physical activity most frequently received from family members (p = 0.520), then from the doctor (p = 0.512), from some other people (p = 0.420) and other health workers (p = 0.217). Conclusion. Health workers had more physical activity at work than the educators, which can be explained by the specificity of the severity of the human health profession and shift work. The study showed that the level of physical activity of health and education workers in the municipality of Berane is slightly above the average level of physical activity at the level of Montenegro, so this research provides an impetus for further research in this area.
