Abstract

Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis is a rare cyclic premenstrual reaction to progesterone produced during the luteal phase of a woman's menstrual cycle with a variety of presentations. We describe a 24-year-old woman with a recurrent skin eruption for 6 months. She had no history of exposure to oral contraceptives or synthetic progesterones. During each menstrual cycle, the patient developed an erythematous patch with purpura-like appearence over her right inner thigh. The diagnosis was confirmed with a positive result of challenge test with intramuscular progesterone acetate. The patient was treated with oral contraceptives (Diane(superscript ®)), and the skin lesions resolved after 6 months of follow up.
