Abstract

Background: Advice about when to fly for patients with suspected, conservatively or surgically managed mid-facial fractures is varied with many advocating patients avoid flying for 4–6 weeks. The Royal Darwin Hospital, based in the Northern Territory (NT) of Australia accepts referrals from a huge catchment area which often necessitates patients being transferred by air ambulance or a chartered domestic flight for evaluation and treatment; and who return home post treatment via the same mode of transport.
