Abstract

Fossil fission tracks have been found in a coarse-grained white inclusion of the Allende chondrite. Tracks are present in excess of those produced by 238U spontaneous fission and cosmic rays. The ratio of excess tracks to 238U tracks is ∼20, intermediate to ratios previously observed in meteorites but much lower than might be expected in light of the high initial 244Pu/U ratio measured in these inclusions from Xe isotope ratios.
