Abstract

ABSTRACT THE concept of using pond circulation to reduce the need for emergency aeration in pond fish culture has been tested through an entire growing season. Five waterblenders were used to provide pond circulation during the daytime, mixing oxygen rich surface waters with the oxygen-poor water of greater depth. Water movement continued several hours after dark to diminish thermal gradients. The minimal energy requirements of waterblending compared with emergency aeration and other recent aeration studies show advantages for the circulation.
