Recognizing the contribution art has had in the Mayo Clinic environment since the original Mayo Clinic Building was finished in 1914, Mayo Clinic Proceedings features some of the numerous works of art displayed throughout the buildings and grounds on Mayo Clinic campuses as interpreted by the author. Herb Edwards, best known for his plein air artistry, was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, in 1940. He received a BFA from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque in 1963, and an MFA from the Pratt Institute in New York, New York, in 1970. While there, he studied painting and photography. Between 1970 and 1990, Edwards was a fine arts instructor at Brookdale Community College in Monmouth, New Jersey; and in 1990 he retired from teaching to focus his efforts towards full-time painting. He moved back to New Mexico, where he lived in a small artist community. In 1997 he relocated to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, which provided the inspirational source for these and many other images. Edwards continues to travel to New Mexico and other parts of the world for plein air painting opportunities.1Herb Edwards/Artist About the Artist website. http://www.herbedwards.com/about-the-artist.html. Simplicity of line and mastery of light bring the boating experience to life. Pastel coloring provides reminiscences of seashells, fresh breezes wafting along with the smell of the sea, and the bustle of a boat yard. Fishing Shack, Near Cove Harbor, Cape Boat Yard, Pink Canoe, and Chatham Boat are located on the 14th floor of the Gonda Building on the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, Minnesota.View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT)View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT)View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT)View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT)
