Abstract
Fishery Resources in the Trawl Bycatches of Cuddalore and Parangipettai, Southeast Coast of India The finfish resources of the trawl bycatch were assessed quantitatively and qualitatively in regards to their abundance in coastal waters of Cuddalore and Parangipettai, for a period of two years, from January 2009 to December 2010, in the southeast coast of India. A total of 123 species of finfishes, belonging to 13 orders, 49 families and 82 genera were recorded. Among the orders, Perciformes were found to be dominant with 62% followed by Clupeiformes with 23%, Pleuronectiformes with 4%, Aulophiformes with 3%, Siluriformes with 2% and Torpediniformes, Anguilliformes, Beloniformes, Syngnathiformes, Scorpaeniformes and Tetraodontiformes with 1% each.
