Abstract

Results • Multi-year acoustic tracking revealed that many Caribbean reef fish move greater distances than previously known • 75% of tracked fish (16 of 18 species) moved more than 1 km • We show that more than half of all eastern Caribbean MPAs are less than 1km in length • Caribbean no-takes are likely to be smaller still with unknown impacts on performance • Tracking and seascape ecology studies will help ecologists and MPA managers to rescale fish habitat and optimize MPA design
