Abstract

We present the first STAR results for the high-pTπ0 spectra and nuclear modification factor at mid-rapidity (0 < η < 0.8) in 200 GeV Au+Au collisions, using the large data sample taken in the 2004 RHIC run. Two methods are used to reconstruct π0's over a large pT-range (∼1–12 GeV/c): (1) pairing two photons measured by the barrel electromagnetic calorimeter (BEMC); (2) pairing one photon converting in the material inside the time projection chamber (TPC) with one from the BEMC. Conversion photons are reconstructed using e−/e+ tracks in the TPC. Results from both the methods are compared in the overlapping pT-range and compared to earlier STAR charged π and PHENIX π0 measurements.
