Abstract

Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels (Apiaceae) is a an herbaceous perennial whose roots have been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat gynecological disorders for thousands of years (Committee of China Pharmacopoeia, 2005). Angelica mainly grows in northwest and southwest of China. Gansu Province grows 26000 hectares with a yearly output of about 50, 000 tons; 70-90% of the total output for China. A survey of Angelica disease in Gansu Province revealed a leaf spot with an incidence of 45-100% with 5-20% of the leaf area affected. The disease initially appeared on the leaves in May (summer in Gansu Province) as brown lesions later blackish, 2-3 mm in dia. with gray centers and conidiomata. Pycnidia were globose to subglobose, immersed to semi-immersed, 84.5 x 78.1 µm in dia. (n=50), and brown to blackish brown with a single ostiole. Conidiophores absent.
