Abstract

Abstract Two bat species, the Greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferruequinum) and Kuhl’s pipistrelle (Pipistrellus kuhlii) were recorded in the foothills of the Šumava Mts. (Bohemian Forest), south-western Bohemia, for the first time. An adult female of R. ferrumequinum was found dead in a cellar of the Rabí castle ruins (49° 17’ N, 13° 37’ E) on 13 March 2017. A roosting adult male of P. kuhlii was discovered in the fissure between roof and timber of a bungalow in Kladenské Rovné (48° 48’ N, 14° 13’ E) on 25 June 2017.
