Abstract
Abstract Giant specimens of Lepidion collected in deep water east of New Zealand are referable to L. inosimae (Günther) and L. schmidti Svetovidov. Both species can be distinguished from L. microcephalus Cowper by the shape of the vomerine tooth patch and by differences in head length and orbit diameter.
