Abstract

ABSTRACT Teeth and cranial remains of a small tritylodontid have recently been discovered in the “Silty Facies” of the Kayenta Formation of northeastern Arizona. Based on the characteristic structure of the postcanine teeth, they can be referred to Oligokyphus Hennig, 1922, previously only known from the Lower Jurassic of Europe. The presence of Oligokyphus in the Kayenta Formation supports an Early Jurassic age for this formation and is paleobiogeographically significant because it forges a link with the more or less contemporaneous tetrapod assemblages in Europe.
