Abstract

The present paper includes a new record of the genus Sathrophyllia Stal, 1874 from Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir India, Sathrophyllia rugosa Linnaeus, 1758, the first record of genus Sathrophyllia from Western Himalaya and belonges to the tribe Cymatomerini Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1895 which are commonly called dark katydids. The tribe is composed of eleven cryptic genera with all species mimicking lichen, moss, wood or a leaf, and is known to feed on leaves. The species is reported from various states of India, including Maharashtra, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Brief discussion about morphology and distribution of the species is given.
