Abstract

Abstract We report the first record of the rare carpenter ant (Camponotus microps) from the states of Guanajuato and Queretaro, Mexico. This species was previously known only from the type series from the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona, USA. This species is a member of the picipes species complex, and can be easily separated from the similar common Camponotus festinatus, as well as other members of the complex, by the short antennal scapes.
