Abstract

The recent literature documented many sightings of Horned Grebe Podiceps auritus in some states of India excluding Jammu & Kashmir. Here we report the first record of the species in the Wular Lake, located in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, India. During the routine birding, the Horned Grebes were sighted and documented. The head, beak, plumage colour pattern, and longish neck were used to identify the bird. This finding will be a new member to the bird checklist of Jammu & Kashmir.
