Abstract

ABSTRACT First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Rachel Furlong is first author on ‘The Parkinson's disease gene PINK1 activates Akt via PINK1 kinase-dependent regulation of the phospholipid PI(3,4,5)P3’, published in JCS. Rachel is a PhD student in the labs of Prof. Cora O'Neill and Prof. Aideen Sullivan at University College Cork, Ireland, investigating why neurons die in neurodegenerative disease and potential methods to prevent this.
