Abstract

ABSTRACT First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping early-career researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Ioannis Xanthis is first author on ‘β1 integrin is a sensor of blood flow direction’, published in JCS. Ioannis conducted the research described in this article while a PhD student in Prof. Paul Evans's lab at IICD, University of Sheffield Medical School, Sheffield, UK. He is now a postdoctoral research assistant in lab of Dr Thomas Iskratsch at the School of Engineering and Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London, London, UK, investigating vascular biomechanics and bioengineering.
