Abstract

The author of the present paper researches the history and attribution of the first portrait of Fath-Ali Shah in the Russian press, published in the 12th issue of the Vestnik Evropy magazine in 1815. In the study there was determined the source of the image, there were found intermediate copies between the Russian engraving and the original in oil. An attempt is made to establish the time of its creation based on the work of Abbas Amanat “The Crown of the Kiyanids and the Restoration of Royal Power by Qajar”. Therefore, the author revealed the fate of the original portrait, as well as its reproductions and variations up to the 20th century. The study of provenance is conducted in the field of art history, history, and book studies.
