First observation of an electronic band system of the AsCl + cation: Vibrational analysis of a visible 2Π → X2Π system

Abstract

A new band system has been recorded photoelectrically at low resolution from the reaction of discharged helium with AsCl 3 at total pressures near 3 Torr. Fifty-nine head positions have been assigned to a 2Π → X 2Π system of As 35Cl + and As 37Cl +. Estimated vibrational constants (cm −1) for As 35Cl + from a least squares fit are as follows: T′ e = 25435, Δ G′( 1 2 ) = 242.4, ω″ e = 527.7, ω″ ex ″ e = 1.739, Δ A = z.snfc; A′ e − A″ e = 1386.3.
