Abstract

The GDH collaboration is performing a measurement of the helicity dependence of the total inclusive photo absorption cross section on the proton at the accelerator facilities MAMI (Mainz) and ELSA (Bonn) in the energy range from 140 MeV to 3.1 GeV. This allows the determination of the contribution to the GDH sum rule in this energy range. The experiment involves 4π detection systems, circularly polarized tagged photon beams and a frozen spin target. Results from Mainz and preliminary results from Bonn up to 1.8 GeV are presented.
