Abstract

A new section of the Journal of Geophysical Research dedicated to planetary studies was sent to subscribers this week. The first issue of JGR‐Planets covers such topics as the convection of the mantle of Venus, detecting carbonates on Mars, and meteorite finds in Antarctica.JGR‐Planets is intended to serve the entire planetary science community. The scope of the journal includes the geology, geophysics, and geochemistry of planets, satellites, and small bodies (including meteorites), as well as planetary atmospheres and planetary space physics. Papers that would have been previously published in other sections of JGR will be published in JGR‐Planets when they focus on solar system bodies other than the Earth, broad issues in planetary science, and/or when the articles address the interdisciplinary community of planetary scientists.
