Abstract

ABSTRACT Within the scope of comprehensive efforts to reduce the cost of exploration drilling, Elf Aquitaine has performed with Dowell Schlumberger a first trial of open-hole coiled tubing drilling in the Paris Basin. The purpose of this trial was to determine the feasibility of using coiled tubing drilling units instead of conventional rotary rigs to drill slim hole exploration wells. The feasibility has been verified and applies to some specific prospects. A second trial is planned in 1992 in the same basin.
