Abstract
The hitherto unknown males of Ornithomya candida Maa, 1967 and Nycteribia pleuralis Maa, 1968 are described from Japan. Males of O. candida are distinguished from males of 0. avicularia aobatonis Matsumura by a short curved aedeagus and several external characters indicated for females by Maa (1967) such as distribution of setae on palpus, length and robustness of scutellar bristles, presence/absence of vibrissal spines and relative length of femur I to femur III. Males of N. pleuralis are similar to N. pygmaea (Kishida), but are discriminated from N. pygmaea in that both dorsal and ventral edges of parameres are straight from the lateral view in contrast to the gently curved ventral edge in the latter. Nycteribia pleuralis and N. pygmaea were collected mostly from the Daubenton's bat (Myotis daubentonii) and the Japanese large-footed bat (M. macrodactylus), respectively.
