Abstract

Eye plaque brachytherapy has been one of the most common and effective treatment approaches for intraocular tumors. When treating iris melanoma, it requires the plaque be placed onto the cornea and ensure a 2- to 3-mm margin around the tumor. Because the curvature of a plaque is normally designed to conform onto the sclera, it can be difficult to fit and suture onto a large area of the cornea. The patients often feel painful with a metal plaque on cornea. A dome shaped plaque (model EP2132) has been designed to arc above the cornea to treat tumors of the iris. We present the first clinical case using this plaque with image-based treatment planning.
