Abstract

Bacteria from the genus Paenibacillus are widely present in places like soil and water, but rarely cause infections in humans. A 23-year-old female individual with her right hand with no other symptoms was admitted in the emergency room. Her physical examination was compatible with infectious tenosynovitis and surgical drainage was performed with intense synovitis but no purulent drainage. Culture analysis was positive for Paenibacillus sp. This is the first case description of pyogenic tenosynovitis caused by Paenibacillus. Even though rare, this report is important to cause awareness in health professionals on cases caused by uncommon pathogens.
