Abstract

It is needed to restructure the static internetwork to more flexible networking environment. Today's infrastructure is not able to change according to fast changing requirements of the users. Due to this there is an introduction of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and OpenFlow (OF) architecture in the year 2005 to modify today's static environment to dynamic one. This concept helps to have programmability by decoupling the data plane and control plane, fast transformation and centralized controller. This paper focuses on the replacement of physical switches by the virtual networking domain and also development of firewall and load balancing application that resides on the OpenFlow based SDN controller. It also demonstrates that most of the committed hardware firewall devices can be replaced by the software firewall as it can be built by software. There are numerous OpenFlow based controllers available, among which the selected controller is floodlight as it displays the SDN network in GUI. OpenvSwitch is chosen to develop the SDN network.
