Abstract

A system architecture to perform reasoning tasks using information extracted from formal descriptions of drawings is presented. The architecture consists of a number of independent processes which combine to determine mappings between structures in the user and application domains. Using techniques from A1 and cognitive science, the processes perform bottom-up analysis of a designer's drawing, and analogical mapping between nongraphical data structures in the two domains. These techniques, although currently experimental, will enable us to develop a domain independent framework for the development of design support tools.
