Abstract

Abstract: This essay provides an intimate look at abusive relationships and the concept of unforgiveness. The author posits that people in abusive relationships can harness the tool of unforgiveness to process their trauma in a healthy way for themselves and future generations. Using the feminist approach to unforgiveness, the survivor can practice unforgiveness without the need for vengeance or threatening behavior. The author claims that the use of radical unforgiveness, especially when used with an entire culture, can diminish the acceptance of abusive behavior. The concept of unforgiveness is also linked with memory and community. The author uses ecological and historical anecdotes to explain and examine the intricacies of unforgiveness.
