Abstract

In recent years, construction of large transportation hubs in various countries around the world has been in full swing, among which China’s large transportation hubs like those for high-speed trains, airports, and their composite buildings have been developing rapidly. The constant technological innovations of the Chinese high-speed train industry have led to the erection of one after another iconic high-speed train stations, further driving the development of the construction and design of large transportation hubs. Countries across the globe all have relevant standards for fire safety design, which is an important subproject of architecture design as it is directly related to people’s life and property safety, such as the NFPA and China’s Code for Fire Safety Design of Buildings. However, for large transportation hub buildings with great height, large space, and relatively complex functions, the fire safety design often cannot completely cover the existing standard codes. Therefore, such buildings normally adopt the performance-based design method to customize fire safety strategies. This book uses China’s large transportation hubs as an example to systematically summarize the fire safety design of large transportation hub buildings.
