Abstract

The damaging effect of fire on plants under different surface fire regimes is investigated. A classification is given of fire damage to herbaceous and woody stems and canopies, as well as other transformations caused by fire. Types of fire damage are correlated with fire characteristics and the degree of fire-induced transformation of biocenoses, and are shown to be useful as indicators of fire load intensity and the status and trends of biocenoses under the impact of fire factors.
