Abstract
Supplementary prescribing was introduced in 2003 before nurses were able to prescribe from the whole BNF. It is a different model of prescribing from independent prescribing. When undertaking the V300 prescribing training, supplementary prescribing is a mandatory part of the course so the result is dual qualification and registration.
