Abstract

New, simple approaches are presented for estimating the finite-range gain and field of an open-ended rectangular waveguide (OEG) that use a geometrical theory of diffraction-based far-field gain formula for the OEG. The near-field gain formula offers good comparison with available measured data. The approach for estimating the finite-range field compares very well with an earlier rather complex numerical approach requiring measured values of the reflection coefficient at the aperture of the OEG, and with an empirical gain formula-based approach applicable only for OEGs having an aspect ratio of 2 to 1; it also compares well with already reported measured data.
