Abstract

The electromagnetic fields radiated from a loop antenna on which an oscillating current flows across the static magnetic field B0 are calculated in several simple geometries by the finite element method (FEM) and by analytical methods in a cross section of a plasma cylinder. The wave number along B0 is assumed to be finite. Good agreement between FEM and the analytical solutions is obtained, demonstrating the accuracy of the FEM solutions. The method is used to calculate the fields from a half-turn antenna, and acceptable results are obtained.
