Abstract
ABSTRACT BOD-DO interaction in a river is described by a set of coupled one-dimensional transient partial differential equations, which consider the effects of advection, dispersion, and sources and sinks. A finite volume (FV) model for the solution of the coupled equations using the well-tested QUICK scheme is developed in this paper. The proposed FV model is validated with available analytical solutions for various initial and boundary conditions. The model is for both steady state and transient conditions and inherently conservative, and also does not fail at discontinuities in the concentration field.
