Abstract

A correlated quasiparticle approximation, based on the inclusion of diagonal two-body terms in the exponent of the statistical operator, is discussed. The scheme is seen to yield a substantial improvement over the conventional finite temperature mean-field approach for finite systems. The method is illustrated in two different pairing models and compared with exact and finite temperature BCS results.
