Abstract

Due to a pronounced trend in the world to make plastic products lighter, the phenomenon of buckling of viscoelastic bodies becomes very important. We present intermediate results of the program of investigation of the load-carrying capacity and buckling of plastic containers carried out in the Laboratory of Mechanical Reliability at the Delft Technical University (the Netherlands). We use the model of nonlinear viscoelasticity developed earlier and the finite-element method to simulate the process of buckling caused by the creep of strips andU-profiles made of high-density polyethylene.
