Abstract
A novel scheme based on the finite element method is presented for calculating the radiated sound field and farfield directivity pattern of individual array elements in phased-array antennas. Piezoelectric finite elements are used to model the vibrational behavior of the piezoelectric transducer while fluid finite and infinite elements are applied to determine the radiated sound field. The computed angular responses are in excellent agreement with measured data. >
