Abstract

The finite element method is suitably formulated for the solution of realistic incompressible lubrication problems by using a variational formulation of Reynolds' equation. The various elemental matrices are set up and detailed for triangular elements. It appears that the finite element technique should prove an ideal tool allowing completely arbitrary variation of geometry, film properties, and boundary conditions.
