Abstract

A novel method for the finite element computation of the losses in a three-phase power cable is presented. The phase conductors carry sinusoidal, steady-state, and balanced currents, and the sheath is made of a nonlinear ferromagnetic material. A concept for an effective equivalent magnetic permeability is introduced that allows calculations in the complex domain. Sheath losses are presented and discussed for a symmetrical configuration. >
