Abstract

The paper deals with the finite element analysis of waves in a semi-infinite layer of fluid. The aim of the considerations is to examine the problem of irregular spacing of points in the layer and its influence on results of numerical solutions. It is shown that introduction of a nonhomogeneous spacing of points in the layer introduces a nonhomogeneity into the field. The discrete system may have properties different from the continuous field.
