Abstract

A two-dimensional time-stepping finite element analysis of a single-sided linear induction motor (LIM) used in transportation systems is presented in this paper. The analysis model taking into account the transverse edge effect and primary moving is proposed. The thrust and normal force are calculated at different speeds using Maxwell’s stress tensor. The simulation results are found to be a good prediction to the thrust characteristics.
