Abstract

Traditionally, mechanical properties as determined from sensile-test specimens are assumed to be truly uniaxial and are used directly in finite-element codes for design purposes. In this paper, the stress and strain distributions in two test geometries, an hourglass specimen and a cylindrical specimen, are critically examined by means of the nonlinear finite-element code CREEP-PLAST.
