Abstract

Computer aided electromagnetic simulation of dual stacked aperture coupled microstrip antenna (ACMSA) is done here and further analyzed using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The electromagnetic field radiation patterns of the antenna are determined for single rectangular patch as well as for two patches and results compared to the measured values. Aperture shape and size are the important parameters for the aperture coupled microstrip antennas. The input impedance is calculated for different aperture sizes and shapes for different coupling results. An hour-glass shaped configuration has been proposed for maximum coupling. Good agreement with experimental results is obtained.
