Abstract

Due to the naturally high torque ripple and non-linear characteristics, the applications of Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM) drives are very limited. It is well known that the Torque Distribution Functions (TDFs) method is one of the most effective methods to reduce their torque ripple. This paper presents an analysis of the drawback of TDFs when they are utilized for SRMs with high non-linear characteristics and proposes a technique to improve the torque distribution control for high non-linear SRMs using a fuzzy based adjustment mechanism. The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is implemented to analyze the inductance characteristics. The SRM control strategy is realized in Matlab/Simulink environment showing the superiority of the proposed technique as compared to the conventional TDF method.
