Abstract

In recent year, the soil-structure interaction (SSI) has been the topic of considerable research interest. Many researchers have been targeted to study the response of the soil under different loading cases. In many situations, Ignoring the influence of SSI on turbine generator foundation (TGF) does not give the real response of the soil-structure system, hence, this study can help to provide some guidelines to assess more accurately the sensitivity of the analysis of such huge structures. Finite element modelling and analysis of (TGF) in Al-Mansurya station in Diyala province in Iraq is constructed with the 20 m depth of soil using Abaqus finite element program (v6.13). The analysis takes the dead and lives loads as a static load with elastic and elasto-plastic soil models. The displacements and stresses are presented in the soil mass. The system was analysed to ensure that the foundation design and dimensioning of all components will be in a good manner during the static conditions. It can be shown that the soil, as well as the foundation, is influenced by soil model and SSI effects and the turbine foundation geometry.
